The official dates to discharge Fireworks this year.

Due to City Code, the City Manager is unable to authorize the use of Fireworks in the City Limits on July 1st and 2nd this year. The City Code will be changed for the next year but legal standards do not allow the Commission enough time to change them this year.

Please refer to the City Code Book; Chapter 5 Article 6 (5-603)

a.) Discharge of fireworks, which are defined as "Class C Fireworks, not including "bottle rockets" by the Rules of Regulations of the Kansas State Fire Marshall shall be permitted between the hours of 8:00am and 12:00am, midnight, on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th of July. Fireworks may be possessed July 1st through July 5th. When or if the 3rd, 4th or 5th of July calendar day falls on a Sunday, fireworks shall not be allowed to set off or fired until after 12:00pm, noon and must cease at 12:00am, midnight.

Fireworks can be discharged at the Herington Lake and Reservoir July 1st - 5th in designated areas only.  The lake will have a taped off area and the reservoir will be on each pier at Ziebell Cove, Schmidt's Lookout, and Kandt's point.

Have a Safe and Happy Independence Day!
